Get Involved

How can I get involved?

We love that people want to get involved with the youth involved in our program.

Foster or Adopt

Connect with our Adoption and Foster Care Support group to get support, information and resources. Contact Nathan or Sarah at openarmsbcc@gmail.com

Volunteer

We are looking for people who have skills to teach, who can tutor or teach certain subjects, and those who are interested in mentoring youth. See our process below, or contact us at themission117@gmail.com.

Give

We appreciate your financial support. The more support we have financially, the more we will be able to provide for the youth and children that are involved in our program.  (more…)

Get Started Volunteering

The first step to volunteering is completing our volunteer application, and sending it in.
Download the volunteer application
  • Step 1: Apply

Download our volunteer application: PDF | Word Doc Your application will be reviewed by a Mission 1:17 team member and if it matches the current needs of our organization, you will be contacted with a date of our next volunteer orientation.

  • Step 2: Inform

At the volunteer orientation, you will learn about our organization, volunteer opportunities, and be able to ask questions and decide whether volunteering with Mission 1:17 is a good fit for you.

  • Step 3: Screen

Because you’ll be working with at-risk youth, a majority of our volunteer positions require 2 or more clearances, and many require an FBI clearance. Our screening process also includes an interview that will allow us to get to know you as well as what type of volunteer role would best match you. Also, at the time of your interview, you will be asked to fill out paperwork to begin your background checks.

  • Step 4: Train

Before starting your volunteer role with Mission 1:17, all volunteers will be asked to attend a mandatory orientation and 2-hour training where you’ll learn about the youth you will be working with and how to appropriately handle different scenarios and situations.

  • Step 5: Start

You will then be placed in a volunteering position that best suits your interests, time commitment, and personality.
